Dress For Success At Your Interview

An interview is the first personal impression that is made. This impression is the most memorable experience and should be taken seriously.

Dress Cleanly, Neatly and Conservatively

Men:

  1. Suit (Clean, pressed, solid conservative dark color such as Greys and Blues)
  2. Matching Tie
  3. Long sleeved shirt- White
  4. Matching Belt To Shoes
  5. Matching Shoes To Belt- Leather Close Toed Shoes
  6. Cover tattoos
  7. Do not wear jewelry (remove piercings)
  8. Get a professional hair cut
  9. Get a manicure or make sure nails are neatly trimmed and clean
  10. No cologne or aftershave (some people are allergic to these)
  11. Polish your shoes
  12. Carry one item (a briefcase or folder)

Women:

  1. Suit (Clean, pressed, solid conservative dark color such as Greys and Blues)
  2. Skirts should be below the knee
  3. Panty Hose/Nylons with skirts
  4. Close toed shoes, not more than 1 inch heels
  5. Get a professional hair style
  6. Blouse
  7. Cover tattoos
  8. Earring studs (no distracting dangling jewelry)
  9. Remove face piercings other than ears
  10. Get a manicure or make sure nails are neatly trimmed and clean
  11. Conservative makeup (get a free professional make over at any cosmetic store such as a MAC store or at your local mall)- ask the makeup artist to do a conservative, professional look
  12. No perfume or colognes (some people are allergic to these- leave those for date night)
  13. Polish your shoes
  14. Carry one item (a briefcase or folder)

Other Tips

  1. Try on your outfit the day before and model it for a friend or family member. Ask them if you look clean, neat and professional?
  2. No gum chewing or eating candy.
