Posted on September 9, 2018 Written by Cathy Allen

After preparing for the interview (see http://dentalworkers-careercenter.com/find-dental-assistant-jobs/how-to-prepare-for-the-interview.php ) the employer has made contact and scheduled the interview with the candidate, the candidate's level of professionalism can now make or break the deal. Dentalworkers.com surveyed dental employers in 2007. This survey found that the top three deal makers and breakers were the following.

Top Three Deal Makers:

  1. Showing up early or on time
  2. Eye contact when speaking with proper grammar
  3. Professional attire

Top Three Deal Breakers:

  1. Showing up late
  2. Inappropriate unprofessional attire
  3. Poor grammar

Basic Interviewing Questions

Awareness of Invisible Communications In An Interview

The power of body language.

During the interview, body language and open communication is important to making a professional impression.

  1. Do not cross arms; this means that the candidate is not open to hearing what the interviewer is saying.
  2. With confidence, look your interviewer in the eyes.
  3. Do not be afraid to ask questions in order to make the most informed decisions.

Etiquette After The Interview

After the interview, follow-up with a phone call or a thank you letter to acknowledge the interviewer for their time spent with you. The follow-up after an interview is a professional gesture that demonstrates consideration. This is an attribute that employers look for in candidates.
